The aim of the certification of sports physiotherapists is to identify those in the field who are active in sports in support of coaching. In practice, this means that the activities of a certified sports physiotherapist are closely linked to the coaching process in either the team or individual sport; not only as an injury rehabilitator at the clinic but also as an active background influencer in the design and implementation of exercise programs in practical coaching situations. Certification criteria have been developed to serve these objectives.

The certification panel currently includes sports physiotherapists who have been active in SUFT and sports physiotherapy at all times, the chairman of the board of SUFT and a representative of the Finnish Olympic Committee’s High Performance Unit.
